Take a hike! That’s what my doctor told me, and I decided to do what he wanted me to. He said if I get 1/2 hour of aerobic exercise 3 times per week, I’d be a much healthier guy. He said that even walking was good for me, as long as I do it at a fast pace. Since I’ve decided that I want to be in control of my life, and my health is part of that, I need to do what I can to be that healthy guy.
So, I decided to get off my butt and start walking around the neighborhood. I downloaded an app for my iPhone called Map My Walk and it’s really cool. The people that created the app also have ones called “Map My Run”, “Map My Hike”, “Map My Ride”, Map My Fitness” and others. I love it – it tells me how far I’ve walked, what’s my pace, how many calories I’ve burned and lots of other information, most of which is pretty useless to me. It may be important to the fanatics, but I just want to know the basics.
I’m trying to walk 2 miles/day, at least 3 days/week. It’s going ok, but it’s been pretty nice out, I just started in March. Let’s see how I do when the weather gets rotten this winter, if I’m still willing to bundle up and get out there. I hope so!
I’m a software developer and a mobile notary/loan closer, and neither one of those jobs get me much exercise at all. When I’m doing my notary job, I just walk from the car into people’s houses. When I’m doing my programming, my exercise consists of walking from my computer to the fridge and back. I have to do something good for me, right???
How about you? Are you able to get any exercise in the midst of a busy day? I’m especially asking you guys. It’s hard for me to motivate myself to take that extra half hour to walk, when I could be making some dough. Anybody else have that problem? What do you do? Give me some ideas in the comments below.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to continue with my new-found healthy ways, and it will help me to take control of my life – at least the health portion of it.
Are there any areas of your life you’d like to take more control of? I’d love to hear what your struggles are! Leave a comment below, or give us a shout and maybe we can work together to achieve our goals!
